Certificate in Greyhound Care and Handling

The Irish Greyhound Skillnet is delighted to announce the first ever accredited course in Greyhound care and handling. The Greyhound Skillnet has been working very closely with Teagasc over the past two years to achieve validation at FETAC Level 5 for the four core modules:

____• Greyhound Breeding and Pup Care
____• Care & Schooling of Young Greyhounds
____• Health & Safety with Greyhounds
____• Anatomy and Physiology of Greyhounds

The Irish Greyhound Skillnet has been working closely with Eamon Tully, head of the Curriculum and Quality Assurance Unit, of Teagasc. The unit is charged with ensuring that training and provision meets the needs of learners, the agricultural industry and the awarding bodies.
The first module of the programme, Greyhound Breeding and Pup Care, will be piloted with agriculture in Kildalton Agricultural College in May 2008.

In September the Greyhound Skillnet hopes to be in a position to launch all of the courses to Greyhound Skillnet members. The Skillnet are also investigating the opportunities for “Recognition of Prior Learning". This means that the training carried out by Skillnet members in 2006-2007 can be recognized and members will be able to gain a national qualification based on their learning for the last two years.
